Ole Wanscher was the second professor at the Copenhagen Academy of Fine Arts, (between Klare Klint and Poul Kjerholm) and like Klint, his work draws on the elegance of 18th century English Cabinet making. The tradition of handcrafted furniture was protected in Denmark until the 1960’s by a punitive tax levied on imported mass produced furniture. This left the individual cabinet makers items exclusive and sought after.
