Description / Expertise
A lovely green leather Jetson chair by Bruno Matheson for DUX.
Leather button upholstery, chrome plated steel.
Bruno Mathsson (1907-1988) was a Swedish furniture designer and architect with ideas coloured by functionalism/modernism, as well as old Swedish crafts tradition. Being the son of a carpenter in the town of Varnamo in the south of Sweden, it was fairly obvious what work the young Bruno would choose. After a short time in education in school, he started to work in his father’s gallery. He soon found a great interest in furniture and especially chairs-their function and design.
Bruno Mathsson held his first exhibition of his designs in 1936 at the Rohsska Museum in Gothenburg, Sweden.
2007 marked the 70th year since he began his international career as a designer. It is 40 years since he stepped into the jet era at an exhibition in Malmo, Sweden, with his famous easy chair Jetson.
