Mouseman

Robert Thompson was born in Kilburn, North Yorkshire in 1876. He took over his father’s business in 1895 and during the next twenty years he developed his skills as a carpenter and stonemason. In 1919 he received his first commission from Father Paul Neville for the Church at Ampleforth. This led to various Church commissions and then commissions for Ampleforth College. The trade mark Mouse first appears in 1920. Every piece of furniture is hand made from the finest English Oak which was left to season for around 8 years. It is then often adzed, waxed and fumed. The business still exists in Kilburn today and is now run by Thompson’s great- Grandson Cartwright.
